Your winter slowdown starts in October. Fix it in October.

Seasonal trades treat the slow months like weather. Half of it is self-inflicted.

Every seasonal trade knows the dip. Fence work slows when the ground hardens, decks stop in the cold, and the phone gets quiet right when the truck payment does not.

Here is the part most owners miss: the winter phone is quiet partly because of what you did not do in October. The customers who hire in November are the ones who found you in October, read your reviews in October, and got your name from a neighbor in October.

Three moves before the season turns. First, ask every fall customer for a review while the job is fresh. Reviews posted in October are still convincing people in January. Second, get your seasonal services onto your site and your Google listing before the season, not during it. Gate repairs, storm cleanup, winter prep: if it is not written anywhere, Google cannot send anyone to you for it. Third, message your past customers before the dip with whatever winter work you actually do.

None of this creates demand out of thin air. What it does is capture the demand that still exists in the slow months, which is usually enough to flatten the worst of the dip.

The owners who do this every year stop describing winter as dead. They describe it as slower. That difference is the truck payment.
